When it comes to vegetables, one method of cooking definitely does not fit all. For example, carrots can pretty much stand up to any style of cooking, but boil them, and you’ll want to run in the opposite direction. Brussels sprouts, the scourge of nursery school students everywhere, are most delicious pan-roasted, but steam them, and you’ll wind up with something you’d probably not want to feed to the pooch. Here’s a short list of what to cook, and how.

Cabbage

Slice, panfry, or salt in olive or sesame oil with a tablespoon of butter.

Brussels Sprouts

Roast at high heat with a drop of olive oil and a drizzle of soy sauce.

Carrots

Cook in a skillet on top of the stove with 1 tablespoon oil, cup water, and 1 tablespoon sugar. Cook small carrots whole and cut larger ones into chunks or rounds. Also delicious roasted.

Broccoli

Oven-roast, panfry, or steam with a sprinkle of salt and a drizzle of olive oil. If steaming, check after 5 minutes to make sure they’re fork-tender, then remove them from the heat immediately.

Hardy Greens (chard, kale, collards, mustard greens)

Salt on top of the stove only in olive oil, sesame oil, or butter. If the leaves are tough and fibrous, remove the stem, roll the leaves up like a cigar and sliver them for quick cooking.

Tender Greens (spinach, escarole, watercress)

Steam quickly or salt on top of the stove and drizzle with oil.

Eggplant

After salting and rinsing, slice into rounds or cubes, roast in the oven, or salt on top of the stove.

Winter Squash

Steam, roast, or panfry with a drizzle of olive or sesame oil.

Summer Squash (zucchini or yellow squash)

Steam or panfry with a bit of olive or sesame oil.

Beets

Roast on the grill or in an oven; let cool, peel, and drizzle with olive oil and salt.

Write down 10 of your wildest dreams and next to each, write down one step that you will take to achieve that goal. This action will allow you to start focusing on the important things. For example, I want to own an island one day. If I don’t set any action step(s) in place to start achieving that, then I will wander aimlessly continuing to just hope.

Tell others about your outlandish goals. Most people will either laugh at you or put you down when you tell them about your wildest dreams. Let that fuel your fire to prove them wrong. There is no better feeling than proving someone wrong that said you couldn’t achieve something.

Set 1 week 1 month 6 months 1 year goals for each of your big dreams. Start by setting deadlines so that you know you must have this or that done by a specific time. By doing this, you will remain focus even after you have completed your initial small goals. This is the best way to keep progressing on your journey.

Commit a minimum of one hour per day to an action that will help you reach your goal(s). For example, if you want to have $500,000 in the bank in the next 5 years, take a baby step and commit one hour each day to reading personal finance and wealth development books, articles, and interviews. Take every opportunity to solve one piece of the puzzle daily. The worst thing that happens is that you educate yourself a little bit more on what you need to do to be successful.

Be different. Stop being a part of the steeple. Blaze your own path to success and start accepting change. Most people that achieve their dreams didn’t do it how others told them to do it. In fact, they did it the exact opposite way a lot of times. Don’t follow others when they are leading you down a path of comfort and stability. The brightest scrap their way to the top while the others access mediocrity.

Accept that you are the only one that will make your dreams a reality. Friends, family, coworkers may help you along the way, but they aren’t going to be on top of you 24/7. That is all you. You have to be the one at practice before everyone else and leave after everyone else. You have to read more. You have to learn more. Its all on you. Realize this and accept it. It is awesome knowing that you can be the reason for success and that you were the one who did everything to reach the mountain top. Others will only hold you back in the long run so start barreling ahead to success without them.

Learn one new thing today. If there is one thing you can do to be different than everyone else, learn something new today. Whatever it be, learn something. It doesn’t have to deal with your dream at all. Just the action of continuously adding to your mental capacity will keep you on your toes when the time comes. You never know when what you learn today will make your dreams a reality. There are a million things that have brought me into conversations and connections that have little if anything to do with my main goal or focus. However, that knowledge of one more thing opened one more door. That one more door may be your ticket to your dream.

Boys like blue, girls like pink and there isn’t much anybody can do about it, researchers said in one of the first studies to show scientifically that there are gender-based color preferences.

Researchers said these differences may have a basis in evolution in which females developed a preference for reddish colors associated with riper fruit and healthier faces.

Recent studies have suggested there is a universal preference for "blue," and there has not been much previous evidence to support the idea of sex differences when picking colors, said Anya Hurlbert, a neuron scientist at Newcastle University who led the study.

"We speculate that this sex difference arose from sex-specific functional specialization in the evolutionary division of labor,"she wrote in Current Biology.

In the study, the researchers asked a group of men and women to look at about 1,000 pairs of colored rectangles on a computer screen in a darkroom and pick the ones they liked best as quickly as possible.

After wards,Hurlbert and colleagues plotted the results along the color spectrum and found that while men prefer blue, women gravitate towards the pinker end of the blue spectrum.

"Women have a very clear pattern. It’s low in the yellow and green regions and rises to a peak in the purplish to reddish region," she said.

Hurlbert believes women’s preference for pink may have evolved on top of a natural, universal preference for blue.

"When you add it together you get the colors they intrinsically like, you get bluish red, which is sort of lilac or pink," she said.

Women are meant to be the experts at shopping but new research reveals the whole experience leaves them flustered and stressed.

The surprise findings emerged in a study of 2,000 people and shows that not all women get "retail therapy" from a spot of shopping.

In fact, in a supermarket environment, one third of females get themselves into a complete flap when they do the weekly shop.

And this is despite being organized and armed with shopping lists, money off-coupons, tissues, vouchers and recycled carrier bags.

In contrast, three quarters of men quite enjoy their food shopping experience and are happy to navigate their way around the aisles searching out products.

Men are less forgetful about what they want to buy, are less likely to feel rushed by the cashiers and are more methodical at the checkouts.

Helen Nunn, Head of Marketing at The Co-operative Food which commissioned the research, said: ‘We suspect one of the key reasons why women are more agitated in the supermarket is largely because they are rushing round trying to conduct the shopping as quickly as possible.

"Doing the food shop will be one item on a massive list of jobs, and something which simply has to be done at speed."

"Men seem to adopt a much more laid back and methodical approach, taking their time looking for bargains and make sure they’re getting the most for their money."

The survey shows two thirds of females dislike battling the crowds in the supermarket to get at what they want.

And 34 percent hate it when other people’s children get in their way.

One in 10 women even admitted to having an argument with another shopper in the supermarket either because of trolley rage, fighting over the same item or queue jumping.

Four in 10 women can’t stand feeling rushed when the cashier scans items too quickly so they struggle to get everything into the right bags.

And 35 percent claim they are shocked every time they reach the till and realize how much they have spent.

But the poll suggests women are the savvier shoppers as they are less baffled by all the different brands in the shop and are more likely to ask for help if needed.

After spending a wonderful holiday over the New Year period, some people feel blue and find that it’s difficult to function normally in their daily rhythm. As defined by the DSM IV, holiday blues, holiday depression, or post-New Year blues, these commonly used terms depict the mental distress occurring after the winter holidays and festival season.

Below are some suggested steps to get rid of your post winter festive season holiday blues.

1. Expect some letdown. The holiday season is both joyful and stressful at once. There is family to get along with, gifts to buy and return, people to visit, activities to throw yourself into, plenty of festive food to eat, sales to rush to, and parties to plan and attend. Topped off with the excitement of New Year’s Eve, your adrenaline has probably been pumping a lot of the time during the New Year’s period. Returning to the usual routine and probably quieter workplace than normal can dampen your spirits just by the absence of exciting things to do and look forward to. Expecting to feel a little low is a way of telling yourself that this is a normal feeling and that it will soon pass once the routine re-establishes itself.

2. Choose to see the benefits of post-holiday time. The good side to the end of the holidays is that you’ve had a chance to rest, to relax, and to enjoy yourself. The craziness prior to New Year has ended both at the workplace and in the home, and the restful time after New Year has hopefully given you the opportunity to do things that are different from your usual routine. And any break in the routine is good for the spirit, providing you with the chance to rejuvenate.

3. Be gentle on yourself with respect to your New Year’s Resolutions. Ensure that any goals you’ve set are reasonable and most importantly achievable. Taking weight loss as an example, targeting for a size zero is unrealistic, but looking for 1 pound loss in a span of week seems to be more achievable.

4. Keep being around people. Some of the post-holiday season blues might be related to having been around many people over the New Year break and then suddenly finding yourself surrounded by people you don’t know that well, or even not by many people at all. Lift your spirits by continuing to stay connected with friends and family, and getting out and about to do activities where other people interact with you.

5. Do things that give you cause to look forward to something. Revive the excitement of anticipation by arranging fun things, such as having dinner with friends, starting a new class for a hobby or interest, attending a sporting event regularly, going to the movies, etc. Choose activities that meet your budget and interests, and that you know will give you a thrill.

6. Make healthy choices. After the many indulgences over the holiday period, it can leave you feeling a little out of shape and worse for wear in the nutrition department. Aim to return to eating healthy food, drinking healthy drinks, and ensuring that you keep getting a good amount of exercise. Eating well and keeping up regular exercise will enhance your mood and help you return to good shape and fitness levels.

7. Make this a time for getting professional help and turning around things that have been bothering you. The holiday season tends to put a hold on pressing issues at work and in your personal life because the celebrations, meet-ups, and preparations require your foremost attention. Once this busyness dies down, you’re returned to thinking about your general life issues and this might just be a good time to get help from the professionals, be it for anything from sorting out your finances, redecorating your home, or dealing with the unhappy feelings you’re experiencing.

8. Expect to enjoy the year ahead. Trying to keep a positive frame of mind and planning for interesting and fulfilling events throughout the year is a good way to calm your current blues. Think ahead to the changing seasons and the sorts of things you’d like to be doing as the year moves on, and the sorts of activities and events you’d like to be a part of. Doing something about the things you’d like to happen is the first step and once you’re immersed in planning and doing, you’ll be too busy to fret.

Users must register with their real identities will probably delay the company’s revenue-generating plan until the second half of this year.

"That will create a lot of negative sentiment with investors," says Alicia Yap, an analyst at Barclays Capital. "The post-New Year rally will not be sustainable."

Such concerns were reinforced this week, when government officials said that Weibo users who failed to register under their real names by March 16 would no longer be allowed to post messages. Local media have reported that only 3m new users have registered on Sina Weibo over the past month down from about 20m in earlier months.

The company’s share price already reflects some of these concerns. Following a series of government moves towards tighter censorship of social media, and falling profitability because of the soaring cost of marketing Weibo, Sina shares have lost 54 per cent since their peak of $142.83 on April 19 last year.

Sina has not been idle, though. "The company has been working hard to lay the ground for monetization, and it is moving closer," says Dong Xu, a social media expert at Analysys International, an internet research company in Beijing. That includes hiring engineers to strengthen its skills in developing applications and to adjust its platform to new needs.

Unlike Tencent, China’s largest internet company by revenues and Sina’s main rival in the social space, Sina is essentially a media company. Advertising accounted for 77 per cent of its 2011 revenues of $484m, Morgan Stanley estimates.

Investors hope the company can build a business beyond advertising, similar to Facebook, which last week filed for its long-awaited stock market debut to raise $5bn. Such a model would resemble Tencent, whose broad spread of revenue streams has made it much less vulnerable to cyclical swings when advertising falls.

Sina has taken steps to prepare for that, including the launch of a gaming platform and a virtual currency. But that is all at an experimental stage and there is skepticism about some areas of monetization.

"So far, most things are free," says Xu Zhiming, founder of Kuaishubao, an online bookstore that uses Sina Weibo for its order management and customer relations.

Sina has made its gaming platform free of charge for the first year. Even if it were to start charging, analysts’ expectations are very low. This is partly because Sina’s user base, which consists largely of white-collar workers in China’s largest cities, "are not gamers", says Mr Dong of Analysys.

That would leave Sina with advertising. The two main areas of potential here would be the country’s soaring e-commerce market and highly targeted ads similar to those on Facebook. Many Chinese e-commerce sites have already linked up to Weibo, but Sina has yet to demand a revenue share for that.

The biggest disappointment for industry experts has been lack of progress in targeted ads.

"In theory, Sina has an incredible asset with all this user data, but they don’t appear to know how to analyze those data," says a Beijing advertising agent.

Despite healthy advertising demand in general, that weakness in reading the data impedes progress, especially in the current political climate. "Brands worry that they could be tied to re-tweeted messages that might be sensitive," says Barcap’s Ms Yap.

All these things are much less of a problem for Tencent. Although it has a microblog of its own, the Shenzhen-based company sees the service mostly as a tool to wear down Sina and make sure it does not challenge Tencent’s lead in social networking in China.

Says a Tencent executive: "We have no plans to monetise our microblog. We don’t need to."

Foreigners are to be offered free treatment for HIV on the NHS for the first time under controversial plans backed by ministers.

Those from abroad, including failed asylum seekers, students and tourists are currently barred from receiving free HIV treatment unlike other infectious diseases.

However, the Government is to support proposals recommended by peers which will end the "anomaly" and allow free treatment even for those not legally settled in Britain.

Campaigners argue that the free treatment is essential as it reduces the risk of Britons being infected and can help people to be treated for HIV before their condition becomes serious and life-threatening.

However, ministers are braced for criticism that the decision may prompt so-called "health tourism" and put the NHS under financial pressure at a time when hospitals are being forced to find cuts. It typically costs up to ￡7,000 a year to treat someone diagnosed with HIV and an average of ￡300,000 per patient over their lifetime with the disease.

Last night, Anne Milton, the public health minister, said: "This measure will protect the public and brings HIV treatment in to line with all other infectious diseases. Treating people with HIV means they are very unlikely to pass the infection on to others."

However she added: "Tough guidance will ensure this measure is not abused."

The Government is understood to have decided to introduce free treatment amid fears that the potential costs of being diagnosed were dissuading foreigners from seeking help. There are estimated to be 25,000 people, many of whom are foreign-born, undiagnosed HIV sufferers in Britain.

The Health Protection Agency recently calculated that it costs more than ￡300,000 to treat every person who contracts the disease including those who go on to develop AIDS. The cost of treating sufferers in the last stages of their lives is particularly high.

The government believes that early diagnosis of sufferers could ultimately help cut costs before the virus is passed on to other people.

If diagnosed early, HIV, although incurable, is now treatable for many people. According to the National Aids Trust, many people taking anti-HIV drugs become non-infectious.
